A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her
baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her
joy that a child is born into the world. John 16:21
Dear Myka Daniel Hogan,
To my unborn son. I have counted and I have 41 days until you are put in my arms. We are in week 33. It seems like a years since your Mom and I found out you're coming. You should have seen your Mom's reaction. During a time in my life where tears flowed from our eyes for so many reasons, none that I would consider good, we finally had tears of another type- Joy. Three simple letters that seemed like a stranger around us. But at that one minute, when we saw that little sign that was positive, it changed our lives. It was a true God moment. What is a God moment, you may ask? Well that is when in life, something happens that only God could make happen. So, yes you were the product of a God moment. From that one moment, I have followed your growth every week. The weeks change on Saturday. So, I cannot wait until the weekend to learn whats going on in my wife's aka Mommy's belly. So you have brothers and sisters, but you are the baby of a large family. I have learned so many different things about how God works in the miracle of creation. One week, I saw that you where smaller than a sesame seed and at the same time your tiny body was developing in so many ways. A few weeks ago, I read that you are able to recognize sounds. That night, I held your Mommy's belly and I said you and my first prayer together. Even through the layers of your Mommy's belly, I could feel this special connection. It is such a wonder when I am in bed with your Mom, and all of a sudden you kick. I can see your Mommy's belly move. To me that is a God moment. It's like your saying "Hey Dad, I am in here, and I can't wait to see you." Let me tell you Son, I cannot wait to meet you. It will be the same as the first time I saw your Moms green eyes. That was such a beautiful moment.
So, let me tell you about the family God loaned you too. You have Dad which as you know is me. You are the ninth kiddo. You are the sixth son. Your brothers are the best. They have so many talents. Chris is an artist, Cody well he is happiest when he is lifting weights. You have Shane and he is kind of shy. Austin has a huge heart. He is the funniest kid I have ever seen. Then the brother you will be rooming with. He is a great kid. He will be such a great role model. He loves Christ and he serves every weekend helping with the homeless. He is in Boy Scouts and he plays any sports he can. To be honest if he can brake something he will. He is my little buddy. Then there is your Sisters. You have Stephanie and Shayla. They are sweet. I miss them. Then there is Abby. She is a little princess. She spends the nights doing her hair and her days getting dirty. Your sister's sky is pink and everyone around her is a friend. She has developed a personal relationship with Jesus and she is not afraid to talk about him. Her heart is soft and she is the sparkle in her Dads eyes. Don't worry, I believe there is plenty of sparkle left in my eyes.
Then you have your Mom. She is the Angel that God used to bring me to Him. Your Mom has a love for everyone she meets, and they all seem to love her as well. In our ministry, she is the force that gets things done. In your life she will be the extra heart beat to help you through life. Your Mom is the most amazing woman I have ever met. Do you remember the saying God moment, well her coming into my life was a 100 percent God moment. When your uncle first met her, he asked, "what's wrong with her, to be with my brother? " My wife, your Mom is the glue that holds this family together. You my son have been given a gift, you get to look up at her and call this woman of God your Mom. Your Mommy will always be there for you and you will always be able to talk to her and share all your secrets with.
When we found out about you, we shared the news with friends and family. When we told your brother and sister you were on your way, it was like they won the lottery. I know that at this point you know their voices. They are the ones that pray the Lords prayer with you at night and they are the ones that talk to you so much.
Son, you are coming into a world of craziness. The time of knowing your neighbors for the most part is a thing of the past. There will not be someone knocking on your door when you move in with an apple pie. Even the safest of places, are not really safe. Your Church and your home will be your safest place. Your family is where you will feel the strongest and where you will never need to fear. In such a crazy world, there still are so many wonderful people. Your Mommy and I have surrounded ourselves with wholesome Christians, brothers and sisters of Christ. Our friends will be yours and they will be there when you need them. God, the same God that loaned us you, has been amazing to us. Our Lord has given us the chance to share his love with people all over Columbus. We share this with our brothers and sisters and now we will share our mission with you. We will enjoy watching you grow up learning as Abby and Joey have that God is true and wonderful. We will enjoy seeing our friends hold you and as we have watched their children grow up in Christ, they will see you do the same.
Son, you are almost here and you are a gift from our wonderful Lord. So, until I get to see you and hold you in my arms, know that your Daddy is here for you son, and I welcome you to our family. The family that serves the homeless, and a family that worships our Lord.
With the deepest love,
Your Dad
